What is Yoga?

Yoga is a practice that has originated from the East, primarily in India, and has now made its way to the West. There are many different variations of yoga, such as Vinyasa Yoga, Ashtanga Yoga, and Hatha Yoga, which can suit anyone’s preferences. However, because it originated from the East, there are some positions that people in the West might not be used to. For example, people in the East sit on the floor or in a squat, while we in the West sit on chairs.

When practicing yoga, we must remember that it is a journey and not a destination. It is a practice that we must continue to work on, and there is always room for improvement. It can be challenging for Westerners to get into some poses because of the way we have grown up and our lifestyles. Therefore, we must adapt the poses to suit our bodies.

In classes, it is important to focus on the most important aspects of each pose and gradually develop the practice over time. One of the benefits of yoga that the speaker has experienced is the positive effect it has on their mental well-being. By focusing on breathing and poses, they have learned to calm their mind through relaxation and meditation. In classes at Club K, the speaker offers meditation and relaxation at the beginning and end of each class to help ease the mind and prepare the body for what’s to come.

Meditation comes in many different forms, and for many people, being in the moment is a form of meditation. At Club K, they use the Sunshine Yoga format, which includes a sunrise phase where you lie on your back and let go of the day, a morning phase where you create more warmth in your body, a midday phase where you hold poses for longer, an afternoon phase where you stretch, and a sunset phase where you meditate and relax. The classes start with the most basic poses and gradually become more challenging over time.

Yoga is a journey, and some days are better than others. However, it is essential to take the journey as it is and not compare ourselves to others. If you’re interested in starting your yoga journey, you can try Club K’s online classes or come to their club for more information.
