What’s It Like to Do Personal Training at Club-K Health & Fitness?

If you’re thinking about personal training, one of the biggest questions is often: what actually happens, and is it right for me?
I’m Luke, and I do the personal training here at Club-K Health & Fitness, so let me talk you through exactly what you can expect.

Step One: Your Consultation

Every personal training journey at Club-K starts with a consultation. This is your chance to come in, have a chat, and see whether we’re the right fit for each other.

We’ll talk about:

  • What you want to train for
  • Your goals (big or small)
  • Any worries, concerns, or previous experiences
  • What you enjoy doing — and what you really don’t

Some people come to train for a specific event, like cycling to Paris for charity. Others want to lose weight, improve strength, reduce back pain, or feel more confident in their body. Some are getting ready for a wedding. Everyone’s reason is different — and that’s exactly how it should be.

A Plan Built With You, Not For You

There are always exercises people love… and ones they’d happily never do again. My job is to create a balanced plan that includes:

  • Things you enjoy (so you stick with it)
  • Things you need (to get the results you want)

Ideally, everything lines up perfectly — but real life doesn’t always work that way. When there are exercises that are important but not your favourites, I’ll always explain why we’re doing them, so you understand where you’re going and what you’re working towards.

Flexible Training That Fits Your Life

You don’t need to commit to the same day and time every week unless that works for you. Many of my clients work shifts — including doctors — and we simply fit sessions around their schedules. Whether you prefer flexibility or routine, we can make it work.

A Private, Supportive Training Space

One thing clients really love about training at Club-K is that you train in a private room — just you and me.

This means:

  • You can make mistakes without feeling watched
  • You can learn new skills confidently
  • You won’t feel judged or rushed

If you’ve never used weights before, this is a brilliant environment to learn. My job is to help you get things right, safely and effectively — not to make you feel uncomfortable.

Equipment to Suit Every Goal

We’ve got a wide range of equipment so sessions stay varied and tailored to you, including:

  • Free weights and resistance equipment
  • Punch bags, power bags, water balls
  • Air bike, bike, treadmill, rower, SkiErg
  • Pilates reformers
  • A combined Smith machine and cable machine

Whether your goal is improving fitness, changing body shape, building strength, or simply looking after yourself long term, we’ve got the tools to support that.

Real Results, Real Life Benefits

Over the past year, I’ve helped clients:

  • Train for a charity cycle to Paris
  • Reduce back pain from office work
  • Build strength to care for elderly relatives
  • Improve confidence and everyday fitness
  • Learn how to lift weights safely and independently

One client even said their training gave them the physical strength they needed to support a family member during a difficult time — and that’s the kind of real-life impact personal training can have.

Learning Weights Safely

If your goal is simply to learn how to use weights properly, this is a great place to do it. I’ve run six-week programmes focused purely on technique, then written gym programmes clients can take away and use independently — with the option to pop back in for technique check-ins.

Being Honest About Fit

I’m always honest about what I do best.

  • If you want to build very large muscles, I can start you off — but I’ll point you to someone better suited long term
  • If you’re a marathon runner, I can support you with strength and injury prevention, but I’ll happily recommend specialist running coaches
  • If you want long-term strength, fitness, confidence, and injury-aware training — that’s exactly my area

The consultation is about making sure you get the right support, even if that means I point you elsewhere.

Qualifications & Experience That Matter

When choosing a personal trainer, I always recommend someone with at least a Level 3 Personal Training qualification. This covers:

  • Anatomy & physiology
  • Advanced cardiovascular training
  • Advanced resistance (weight) training
  • Basic nutrition advice

I also have additional training in:

  • GP referral
  • Diabetes, obesity & metabolic syndrome
  • Working alongside medication (including GLP-1 medications)

My approach is never to judge medication use — it’s to understand how it affects your training and adapt sessions so you get the most benefit safely.

How Sessions Work

Personal training at Club-K is available as:

  • Single sessions
  • Block bookings (which reduce the cost per session)

Most clients choose blocks of four or ten sessions and renew as they go.
